(Free the Flow of the Orifices & Quicken the Blood Decoction)

This formula comes from Wang Qing-ren’s late Qing dynasty Yi Lin Gai Cuo (Correcting the Errors in the Forest of Medicine). Our version is a 10:1 powdered extract in 500mg gelatin capsules.

Functions
Quickens the blood and frees the flow of the orifices

Indications
Blood stasis in the head with headache, dizziness, deafness, visual impairment, hair loss, acne rosacea, or nasal obstruction. It is also indicated for white patch wind, dry blood taxation in women, and childhood gan with blue-greens veins visible on the distended abdomen.

Signs & symptoms of blood stasis in the head include:

• Severe, fixed, and/or enduring headache

• Acne rosacea

• Long-term, chronic nasal obstruction

• Visibly engorged veins or venules

• Black, brown, and/or purple discolorations

• A dark, purplish tongue and/or possible static speckles or macules

Formula explanation
Within this formula, Chuan Xiong, Chi Shao, Tao Ren, Hong Hua, and She Xiang quicken the blood and dispel stasis. In addition,  Chuan Xiong guides the other medicinals to the head and sense organs, while She Xiang powerfully penetrates and frees the flow of the network vessels and opens the orifices. Sheng Jiang and Cong Bai also guide the other ingredients upward and free the flow of yang, while Da Zao and Sheng Jiang harmonize and regulate all the other medicinals in this formula.           

Dosage
Three capsules two times per day equal not less than 30 grams of bulk medicinals. However, because our extraction process is so much more efficient than stovetop decoction, we believe this amount of extract is actually more like the equivalent of 45-60 grams of bulk-dispensed herbs.
